KUALA LUMPUR: McDonald’s Malaysia has voiced worry about recent incidents of vandalism affecting its operations.
In a statement released on Saturday, Datuk Azmir Jaafar, the managing director and local operating partner, expressed concern about vandalism targeting their signboards, billboards, and numerous restaurants across the country, noting an increase in both frequency and severity.
“These actions are causing significant harm and distress to our crew members and the surrounding community. While we respect individuals’ rights to express their views, we appeal to everyone to refrain from actions that damage property,” Azmir stated.
He highlighted that aside from vandalism, any acts of aggression toward McDonald’s crew members and customers are deeply troubling.
Azmir emphasized that the company, along with its crew members and customers, are part of the Malaysian family, and such behavior is hurtful and counterproductive.
“The safety of our employees, all of whom are Malaysians, is our priority. While standing up for the plight of Palestinians in Gaza is important, it should not lead to harming fellow Malaysians,” he added.

“As a Muslim, I share the pain and despair over what is happening in Gaza. I stand in solidarity with my Muslim brethren there and around the world. We all feel a moral obligation to help within our means.”
Azmir underscored the company’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes as a 100% Muslim-owned business in Malaysia.
He noted McDonald’s Malaysia’s consistent support for victims in Palestine, including a donation of RM1 million to the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund. Moreover, employees have collectively raised more than RM100,000 in donations to further aid those affected.

“We do what we can, and I encourage everyone to do the same. Responsible expression of views is crucial. Vandalism and aggression do not foster constructive dialogue or resolution; they only worsen the situation. Let’s work together towards solutions based on our shared values,” Azmir concluded.
