Rebel Foods, known for operating over 450 cloud kitchens across 75 cities globally, has announced plans to invest Rs 100-150 crore to help expand Wendy’s presence in India. The goal is to increase the number of Wendy’s outlets in the country to 500 by 2028. This move is part of Wendy’s global initiative to open 1,000 new restaurants worldwide by the same year.
Currently, Wendy’s operates 200 locations in India. Of these, 185 are cloud kitchens, while 15 are traditional offline stores.
Rebel Foods, which has been a key partner for Wendy’s in India, aims to open an additional 300 locations in the country, primarily focusing on delivery-only cloud kitchens.
Ankush Grover, co-founder and CEO of Rebel Foods India, shared that in the next 2.5 to 3 years, Rebel plans to increase its cloud kitchen network to around 700 locations, with at least 70% of them housing a Wendy’s kitchen.
Rebel Foods, which operates popular brands like Faasos, Oven Story, Behrouz Biryani, and Slay Coffee, acquired the rights to exclusively manage Wendy’s cloud kitchens in India in 2020. In 2023, the company expanded its role, taking over the management and development of Wendy’s offline restaurants as well, marking the end of the chain’s partnership with Sierra Nevada.
In a separate initiative, Rebel Foods launched its new food delivery service, QuickiES, through its app EatSure. This service promises delivery within 15 minutes and has already begun operations in Mumbai, with plans to expand to other major cities.
For the fiscal year 2024, Rebel Foods reported a 19% increase in revenue, reaching Rs 1,420 crore, up from Rs 1,195 crore in FY23. The company also reduced its losses by 42%, bringing them down to Rs 378 crore, while its EBITDA burn decreased to under Rs 10 crore as of December 2024.
Rebel Foods, which secured $210 million in a Series G funding round in December 2024 led by Singapore’s Temasek, is now preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in the next 18 to 24 months.
