Two new fast food and drink establishments are set to open in York this year. A7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee will debut this summer, followed by Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers later in the year.
Both locations will be situated at 3627 S. Lincoln Ave., on the site where a former Burger King building was recently demolished.
High Plains Brew LLC has secured a building permit worth $961,581 for the A7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee. This will be the eighth location for High Plains Brew, which is based in Lincoln. Operating partner Chase Oberg stated that the new coffee shop will feature a 510-square-foot building with two drive-thru lanes but no indoor seating. Construction is expected to start in a few weeks, with plans for an opening this summer.
Oberg emphasized that A7 Brew aims to redefine the drive-thru experience, offering unique drinks designed to foster kindness and connections within the community. The company currently operates two locations in Lincoln and one each in Grand Island, North Platte, and Kearney, with another opening soon in Norfolk.
The Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers will be operated by TR Hospitality Group from Wichita, Kansas, owned by Oberg’s father, Ron, and partner Alex Carney. This York location will mark TR’s 14th Freddy’s restaurant. Currently, they have 11 locations open in Nebraska and South Dakota, with more planned for Norfolk and Rapid City.
Carney noted that the York Freddy’s will be a new 2,600-square-foot prototype, although construction costs have not yet been determined. He mentioned that the company is still finalizing plans and has not yet applied for a building permit. The restaurant is expected to create around 50 jobs.
Both High Plains Brew and TR Hospitality Group are separate entities but chose to co-locate due to the size of the former Burger King lot, which can accommodate both businesses. Carney anticipates that Freddy’s will open in the fall.
