Starbucks has unveiled a premium matcha experience at its newly opened Teavana branch in the heart of Ginza, marking the chain’s 2,000th store in Japan. Located on Maronnier Street, this new outlet, called “Starbucks Ginza House,” stands out as a flagship location in the upscale district.
The store, which boasts a Starbucks Reserve Roastery on its first and second floors, now features a basement-level Teavana, dedicated to high-end tea offerings. This unique store offers exclusive Uji matcha beverages that cannot be found at any other Starbucks in Japan. Uji, renowned for producing Japan’s finest matcha, is the source of the premium green tea ground on-site using a traditional stone mill.
The stone mill is the centerpiece of this special Teavana, ensuring a finely ground matcha that elevates the quality of the drinks served. For matcha enthusiasts, this is a rare opportunity to taste the traditional craftsmanship of Uji matcha in a modern, luxurious setting. However, the exclusivity and the use of high-quality ingredients come at a price, making these drinks some of the most expensive matcha beverages available in Japan.
As the demand for premium, handcrafted matcha drinks grows, the opening of Starbucks Ginza House underscores the chain’s commitment to offering innovative, high-end experiences for its customers. But the question remains: do these premium-priced matcha drinks live up to the hype? Only time will tell if they justify their steep price tag.
