Tim Hortons has submitted an application to extend its operating hours to 24 hours a day at its Boldon Leisure Park branch in South Tyneside.
The proposal includes offering late-night refreshments, both for dine-in and takeout, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. The request also seeks general 24-hour availability for the location.
Since its opening, the Boldon branch has become a popular destination in the area and is part of Tim Hortons’ ongoing expansion across the UK. The Canadian chain has already made headlines with similar 24-hour initiatives, including a Tim Hortons in Oldbury, Black Country, which offers round-the-clock service, featuring coffee, doughnuts, and fast food.
Proponents of the Boldon proposal believe that the extended hours will provide valuable convenience for the community.
“Having a 24-hour Tim Hortons could really benefit shift workers, night owls, and people passing through the area,” one local resident stated.
The location’s accessibility and ample parking are also seen as advantages for late-night operations, according to supporters.
Tim Hortons’ affordable menu and fast service have made it a hit in multiple locations across the UK.
However, some residents have raised concerns about the potential impact of the 24-hour operation on the area’s nighttime tranquility. Issues such as noise, litter, and increased traffic during the late hours have been highlighted.
Similar concerns were voiced at other Tim Hortons locations in the UK with 24-hour service, where residents questioned the effects on nearby residential neighborhoods.
One Boldon resident expressed mixed feelings: “While I appreciate the convenience, I’m concerned about how this might affect the peace in our neighborhood. We need to make sure there’s a balance between business growth and community well-being.”
