Arby’s has closed another South Jersey location, with the unexpected shutdown of its Audubon, NJ, restaurant this week.
The closure was first reported by local readers, prompting a visit to the site, where I found that the Arby’s signage had already been removed. The building was dark, and a handwritten note on the drive-thru window read simply: “Closed.”
This marks the third recent Arby’s closure in South Jersey. Earlier in 2024, the Berlin, NJ location closed, followed by the Magnolia, NJ restaurant last fall.
In a bit of good news for the Berlin location, the building has since been repurposed and now hosts two restaurants: a Sonic Drive-In on one side and a Buffalo Wild Wings Go on the other.
Unfortunately, the Magnolia location hasn’t seen the same fate. Without a new tenant from the same franchise group, the building was put up for lease. Now, just days after the Audubon location closed, the owner of Audubon Commons, Wolfson Group, has already listed the building for lease (via Loopnet).
Arby’s is owned by Inspire Brands, a privately held company also responsible for popular chains such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Sonic Drive-In, Jimmy John’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mr. Donut, and Baskin-Robbins.
As a private company, Inspire Brands does not release detailed sales numbers for Arby’s. However, industry reports estimate that in 2023, Arby’s operated 3,400 units, generating $4.6 billion in sales, averaging around $1.35 million in sales per location.
For comparison, Chick-fil-A, which operates about 10% fewer restaurants (2,964), reported $21 billion in sales, or approximately $7 million per location.
The Wolfson Group’s leasing brochure highlights the Audubon location’s prime spot next to an Acme Supermarket, with access to 79 dedicated parking spaces in the lot.
