Wendy’s is making a significant move into the international market, officially launching its first location in Australia as part of an aggressive global expansion strategy. The fast-food giant’s entrance into the Australian market is a major milestone, marking the beginning of a plan that will see the opening of 200 restaurants across the country by 2034.
First Australian Location Opens in Queensland
On January 15, 2025, Wendy’s unveiled its debut Australian location on the Gold Coast, in Queensland. Situated in the Paradise Centre at 2 Cavill Ave., the new restaurant offers iconic menu items such as square-shaped hamburgers, Frosty treats, chicken burgers, and loaded fries. This flagship store also features unique offerings tailored to local tastes, including double hand-breaded chicken tenders and a special dipping sauce.
The Gold Coast now joins a growing list of international cities that offer Wendy’s flavors. “Move over kings, colonels, and clowns, there’s a new burger queen in Queensland,” the company announced in its statement, signaling its competitive entry into the market.
The chain’s Australian menu was developed with local input, and the beef and chicken used in the dishes will be entirely sourced from Australian suppliers. This move reflects Wendy’s commitment to integrating into the local food scene.
A New Chapter for Wendy’s with Flynn Group
The Flynn Group, which has previously managed franchises for U.S.-based brands like Taco Bell, Panera, and Applebee’s, is behind the expansion. In 2021, the Flynn Group began acquiring over 190 Wendy’s locations across the United States, signaling its growing influence within the brand.
“We’re excited to bring a fresh approach to the Australian food scene,” said Lauren Leahy, Chief Transformation Officer of the Flynn Group. “Wendy’s was built on innovation, from our signature square hamburgers to being one of the most talked-about brands on social media. We’ve designed our restaurants with a focus on delivering the best chicken and burger experience.”
