Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) has made an investment in Plantible, a California-based company specializing in plant-based protein development.
The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, but the investment will support Plantible’s efforts to expand its operations and further its research and development initiatives.
Founded in 2018, Plantible has created a unique manufacturing platform that produces Rubi protein™ from Lemna, a type of aquatic plant. This plant-based protein is designed to replicate the quality, taste, and texture of animal-based proteins while serving as a cleaner alternative to synthetic emulsifiers and binders.
Plantible’s mission is to help build a healthier, more sustainable food system. By leveraging the nutritional and functional properties of Lemna, the company aims to address the food industry’s growing demand for allergen-friendly ingredients that are both environmentally and health-conscious. Plantible’s technology also minimizes water usage by recycling water in its growing process and reduces carbon emissions, making it a more sustainable option compared to traditional farming methods.
