Pizza Hut Set to Reopen After Passing Inspection

by Nick

Pizza Hut in Maricopa has received the green light to reopen after passing a final inspection earlier today. The restaurant had previously failed its inspection in late December due to fire code violations, which led to the establishment being deemed an unsafe structure. Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the City of Maricopa, explained that these inspections are critical to ensuring businesses meet life safety standards, protecting both customers and staff.

Though the restaurant was initially operating without a certificate of occupancy over the holidays, this prompted a stop-work order and the installation of a “Do Not Enter” sign. However, the store has now passed inspection and was issued a temporary certificate of occupancy, allowing it to reopen.

Curious residents of Maricopa were puzzled this morning when they noticed a yellow sign on the door of the local Pizza Hut. The sign, posted by the City’s Development Services Department, read, “UNSAFE TO OCCUPY. DO NOT ENTER. CONDEMNED,” and warned that entering the building was a crime. The sign has since been removed after the restaurant passed its inspection earlier today.

After more than a month of preparation, Pizza Hut is now ready to begin serving stuffed-crust pizzas again. The restaurant moved into a smaller location at 21101 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite E102, in late November, with hopes to open by early December. Area Supervisor Lupita Morales confirmed the official opening will be at 4 p.m. today.

“We’re just waiting for the final permit from the city and we’ll be good to go,” Morales said, adding that the staff was preparing to open the doors for customers. Inside, the restaurant appeared mostly ready for business, though some balloons and empty menu boards were still visible among stacks of pizza boxes.

As for the previous location, Barro’s Pizza has confirmed plans to move into the larger space this spring, with General Manager Mike Hull looking forward to a bigger kitchen and patio dining area.
