Newcastle welcomed the American burger chain Wendy’s with open arms as it launched its new restaurant in the city center on Thursday morning. To celebrate the occasion, the fast-food giant offered free burgers to the first customers in line, creating a festive atmosphere on a chilly day.
Arron Morley, head of operations at Wendy’s UK, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and reported that approximately 200 to 250 people queued outside for the grand opening. He noted that the event featured activities and music to enhance the celebratory mood. “We are delighted to launch in Newcastle,” Morley said, emphasizing the restaurant’s prime location at the corner of Bigg Market and Grainger Street, which attracted many passers-by.
During the opening, hundreds of complimentary burgers were distributed. Customers could choose between a quarter-pound cheeseburger or a classic chicken burger from Wendy’s menu. Known for its signature square hamburgers and commitment to fresh ingredients—highlighted by its slogan “fresh not frozen”—Wendy’s also offers a variety of other menu items. These include breakfast wraps like the ‘Baconator’ breakfast treat, chicken sandwiches, sides, fries, salads, vegetarian options, hot drinks, and their popular Frosty dessert.
The new Wendy’s restaurant operates daily from 7 AM (8 AM on Sundays) until 11 PM. On Fridays and Saturdays, it will stay open late until 2:30 AM, catering to night owls and late-night diners.
