Wendy’s has officially opened its new branch at 19-20 High Street, the site of the former Next store, which closed in 2022.
The restaurant features entrances on both High Street and Culver Street West.
Known for its square hamburger patties, chicken nuggets, breakfast items, and Frosty shakes, Wendy’s is a popular American fast-food chain. The decision to open this location follows the success of a Wendy’s drive-thru that launched last year at Northern Gateway Leisure Park.
In preparation for the opening, Wendy’s submitted planning applications to modify the site’s roof and install signage at both entrances. Now, the interior has been completely transformed.
The ground floor includes spacious seating areas, an open-plan kitchen where staff prepare meals, a disabled access lift and toilet, and ample well-lit signage and décor. Customers will also find numerous kiosks on both sides of the room for placing orders. To celebrate the launch, Wendy’s will offer a spinning wheel where customers can win food vouchers with any purchase made during the first few days.
On the first floor, there are three all-gender restrooms clearly marked for customer use.
Founded by Dave Thomas in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio, Wendy’s operates over 7,000 restaurants worldwide. The chain re-entered the UK market in 2021 and now boasts more than 30 locations across the country.
Matthew Muldowney, franchisee of Wendy’s Colchester, expressed excitement about the new opening. “Our team is thrilled to bring Wendy’s fresh famous food and friendly service to such a vibrant town,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming the community to our new restaurant and can’t wait for everyone to discover our craveable menu, like our square hamburgers made with fresh British beef.”
Wendy’s will officially open its doors at 10:30 AM tomorrow. The first 30 customers in line will receive a free Dave’s Single beef burger.
