Chick-fil-A is set to open its first location in Naperville after receiving approvals from city officials earlier this year. Now, plans for a second restaurant are emerging as the year comes to a close.
The Atlanta-based fast-food chain intends to build a drive-thru-only restaurant at the site of the former Taps N Tenders, located at 3320 S. Route 59. This proposal was presented during a Naperville Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on October 16.
New Drive-Thru Concept
Jason Hill, Chick-fil-A’s director of development and construction, shared details about the new 2,936-square-foot facility.
The plan includes demolishing the existing Taps N Tenders building. Hill explained that this new location will focus solely on drive-thru service, with no indoor dining. However, it will feature a walk-up window and an outdoor patio area for pedestrians and cyclists.
“We have designed this site to accommodate our operations effectively,” Hill stated. “We’re excited about expanding our presence in Naperville.”
Construction is already underway for Chick-fil-A’s first restaurant in Naperville, located at the Iroquois Center on 1159 E. Ogden Ave. This establishment will be larger at 5,025 square feet and will include indoor seating.
Traffic Concerns Raised
During the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, residents voiced concerns about potential traffic issues related to the new Chick-fil-A.
Sandy Peters and Dr. Michael Peters, who operate a nearby medical practice, expressed worries about how increased traffic could affect access to their office.
“I support Chick-fil-A and want the building developed,” Sandy Peters said. “But I’m concerned about fewer stop signs on Lacrosse Lane.”
Dr. Michael Peters added, “It will create traffic problems, making it difficult for patients to reach my office during busy times.”
City officials noted that Lacrosse Lane is a private road and not directly under Naperville’s jurisdiction. Concerns regarding this road would need to be addressed by the local homeowners’ association.
City Support for Plans
Chick-fil-A’s proposal was reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission due to various technical aspects of the 1.42-acre site, including drive-thru lane designs. City staff from the Transportation, Engineering, and Development department did not raise any major concerns and recommended approval of the proposal.
Community Planner Sara Kopinski wrote in a memo that the city’s land use master plan designates the property as an urban center suitable for fast-food restaurants and drive-thru facilities. The Planning and Zoning Commission agreed with this assessment and approved the plans. The final decision will be made by the Naperville City Council in an upcoming meeting.
