JOLIET — The Joliet City Council unanimously voted 9-0 on Tuesday night to grant a drive-thru permit for the city’s first Jack in the Box restaurant. The new location will replace the vacant Arby’s restaurant situated on Route 59, between Shorewood and Plainfield.
According to a memo from the City Council, the Joliet Department of Public Works received a formal request on September 26 for the drive-thru facility at 2101 Route 59, the site of the former Arby’s.
The restaurant will undergo renovations along with other site improvements. In July, Jack in the Box CEO Darin Harris mentioned to the Chicago Tribune that the company is considering new locations in New Lenox, Naperville, Plainfield, Carol Stream, Tinley Park, Lake in the Hills, Countryside, and Chicago.
Earlier, Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis informed Patch that Jack in the Box had expressed interest in opening a restaurant in the village, though no concrete plans had been established yet.
