CAPAS – In a significant move, Jollibee has pledged PHP 5 million to support the National Academy of Sports (NAS). This marks the first time a corporate entity has stepped in to assist the academy.
On Monday, Jollibee made the announcement following the Philippines’ successful Olympic performance in Paris. The event featured two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo, who joined Jollibee officials, including country president Ferns Uy and vice president Dorothy Dee-Ching, to present the donation at the NAS campus.
Dorothy Dee-Ching expressed admiration for the Philippine team’s achievements, stating, “We were greatly impressed and inspired by their performance. We want to honor the Olympians by empowering the next generation of world-class Filipino athletes.” She emphasized that this vision aligns with that of the NAS.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara attended the event alongside local officials, including Capas Mayor Roseller Rodriguez and Tarlac Governor Susan Yap. Angara thanked Jollibee for being the first corporate supporter of NAS, hoping it would inspire more private sector involvement in sports development.
During the visit, Yulo and Jollibee officials toured the campus, observing young athletes in training. Angara even participated in a table tennis game with some students while Yulo showcased his gymnastics skills.
According to NAS Executive Director Prof. Joy Reyes, the academy plans to use part of the donation to purchase new equipment, including ping-pong tables and badminton mats, as they work to enhance their facilities.
This partnership aims to foster talent and support aspiring athletes in their journey toward excellence.
