Chick-fil-A has revealed plans to open its first permanent locations outside North America, starting in the United Kingdom.

The fast-food chain will launch five restaurants in key cities, including Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool, and London, over the next two years.

The company aims to invest $100 million in its U.K. expansion over the next decade. This move marks a significant step for Chick-fil-A, which currently operates over 3,000 restaurants across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada.

According to Chick-fil-A’s Chief International Officer Anita Costello, each new restaurant will create approximately 80 to 120 jobs. The company plans to source all chicken from the U.K. and Ireland, ensuring that all eggs are free-range and welfare-certified.

Chick-fil-A’s previous attempt to enter the U.K. market in 2019 ended after just six months due to protests over its stance on LGBTQ+ issues.

This time, the company appears more prepared for a long-term presence in the market.

While some may wonder why Chick-fil-A is moving slowly—opening just five locations in two years—this strategy aligns with its unique business model. Unlike many fast-food chains that rely on franchisees to open multiple locations quickly, Chick-fil-A focuses on local owner-operators. Nearly 80% of these operators own only one restaurant, which requires a relatively low investment of about $10,000.

As Chick-fil-A prepares for its U.K. launch, it will introduce popular menu items such as the Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, salads, and hand-breaded nuggets. The company also plans to donate $25,000 to local nonprofits addressing hunger for each new restaurant opening.

Chick-fil-A’s expansion into the U.K. is part of a broader strategy that includes plans for additional locations in Europe and Asia by 2026. As the brand navigates this new market, it remains committed to serving communities and creating positive impacts through its restaurants.

With this expansion, Chick-fil-A hopes to bring its signature hospitality and quality food to British customers while adapting to local tastes and preferences.
