McDonald’s has submitted plans to transform the recently closed Pizza Hut restaurant located at a retail park in High Wycombe. The Pizza Hut on Ryemead Way shut its doors in September, following the expiration of its lease.
A spokesperson for Pizza Hut expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to customers due to the closure. Meanwhile, a representative from McDonald’s shared enthusiasm about opening the fast-food chain’s fifth location in High Wycombe.
Local franchisee Alan Butcher is moving quickly to begin renovations on the building. This month, he submitted applications to Buckinghamshire Council for a redesigned storefront that will feature McDonald’s iconic golden arches.
The proposed changes include a minor reconfiguration of the building’s exterior. This will involve installing a new sliding door entrance, widening an existing access door, and removing wooden paneling and fascia.
Additionally, the plans call for replacing the current Pizza Hut signage with McDonald’s branding, which will include two white letter sets and one golden arch.
On September 3, Butcher, who manages four other McDonald’s locations in High Wycombe, expressed his excitement about the new restaurant. He highlighted that it would bring significant investment and create up to 60 full- and part-time jobs for the community.
Butcher also mentioned his commitment to contributing positively to the local area, noting ongoing initiatives like daily litter clean-ups and fundraising efforts for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
However, some residents have expressed concerns about adding a fifth McDonald’s in High Wycombe. Some locals have labeled the new restaurant as “ridiculous” and “utter madness,” questioning the need for another fast-food outlet in the town. The opening date for the new McDonald’s has not yet been confirmed.
