KBP Brands Expands Restaurant Portfolio with Acquisitions of KFC & Sonic Locations

KBP Brands has significantly expanded its restaurant portfolio by acquiring multiple franchises, including KFC and Sonic locations across several states.

The company has added 28 KFC restaurants in North Carolina from Scottish Food Systems and 13 more from Luihn Vantage Partners, also based in Cary, North Carolina. Additionally, KBP Brands acquired 85 Sonic restaurants located in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. This expansion brings KBP’s total to over 1,000 restaurants across 32 states, which includes KFC, Taco Bell, and Arby’s. The acquisitions are expected to boost the company’s annual revenue to more than $1.5 billion. KBP currently employs over 21,000 people at its restaurants and headquarters in Kansas City. Mark Everett, the executive vice president of KBP, will oversee operations and growth for the new Sonic locations.

In another deal, Sycamore Partners acquired Playa Bowls from Tamarix Equity Partners, although the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sycamore Partners is a private equity firm based in New York, managing over $10 billion in capital since its founding in 2011. Its portfolio includes well-known brands like Express, Hot Topic, and Staples. Playa Bowls specializes in acai bowls and operates 250 locations across the U.S.

Thrive Restaurant Group has purchased Modern Market Eatery, which operates in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas.

Thrive has been a franchisee of Modern Market since 2022 and is also a significant operator of Applebee’s. The acquisition increases Thrive’s holdings in Modern Market to 24 restaurants across seven states. Robin Robison, the current COO of Modern Market, will become the brand’s president.

Flynn Group has acquired 83 Wendy’s restaurants in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, expanding its domestic portfolio to 277 locations. This acquisition follows Flynn’s international expansion into Australia and New Zealand, where it is now the sole franchisee for Wendy’s. Flynn Group operates over 2,900 restaurants across various brands, generating approximately $5 billion in annual sales.

MC Pizza, led by Chester Ison and Marcus Tincher, has purchased a company-owned Toppers Pizza location in Janesville, Wisconsin, bringing its total to four locations in the state. The company plans to open another store in Beloit, Wisconsin.

Toppers Pizza, founded in 1991, has 70 locations nationwide.

In Florida, Derek Carlson, founder and CEO of MVP Realty Associates, acquired 10 Realty One Group offices. Realty One operates over 400 franchised offices across the U.S. MVP Realty, established in 2014, currently has 22 offices in Florida.

Caring Transitions, a franchise providing supportive moves and transitions, has new ownership in northwest Wisconsin.

Erin Swoboda now owns the Chippewa Valley location, while Deepti Shah has taken over the Chicago Northwest Suburbs branch. Founded in 2006, Caring Transitions has more than 325 franchise locations nationwide.

PCRK Group, a portfolio company of Trivest Partners and Three20 Group, has acquired 35 Massage Envy locations in Texas and one in New Mexico, making it the largest franchisee in the Massage Envy system with 131 locations across 13 states.

Todd Recknagel and Kristi Mailloux serve as co-CEOs.

Daisy has acquired SaaviHome, a smart home franchise, increasing its portfolio to 10 locations. SaaviHome’s CEO, Gavin Lantzy, has been working to franchise the company for the past three years.

Kristi Silva, owner of four Spherion Staffing and Recruiting locations in New England, has taken ownership of the Worcester, Massachusetts, office from Brian Palaia.

Hercules Press, a long-standing business in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, has been sold by retiring owner Michael Macrides to Michael Campagnone.

ARCpoint Labs is joining CRESSO Brands, which also owns Any Lab Test Now. ARCpoint specializes in drug testing and background checks and is the first franchise system to join CRESSO. Founded in 1998, ARCpoint has over 130 locations in 29 states.

LBA Hospitality and 3H Group have acquired the Hyatt Place Tampa Airport/Westshore hotel. LBA Hospitality specializes in hotel management and development, while 3H Group partners with major hotel brands.

Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Northwest Home Team has expanded its market share by acquiring 253 Realty in Tacoma, Washington. Founded in 2013, 253 Realty adds to the firm’s presence in Pierce County.

These acquisitions reflect a dynamic landscape in the restaurant and franchise sectors, with companies aggressively expanding their footprints across the United States.
